FAQ

  • What type of leather do you use?

I work exclusively with premium full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, considered the highest grade available. Full-grain leather comes from the top layer of the hide, where the natural fibers are strongest. This is the same type of leather used in heirloom saddlery, fine holsters, and luxury goods built to last decades.

Vegetable-tanned leather is processed using natural plant extracts rather than harsh chemicals, making it more environmentally responsible and much more durable. It has a firm, rich feel and develops a deep, unique patina over time—darkening, softening, and forming a character that reflects your daily life.

Every wallet is hand-cut and crafted one at a time in my workshop. Depending on the style you choose, stitching may be done by hand using traditional saddle-stitching or with a precision industrial machine stitch—but never in a way that compromises quality. My goal is to create leather goods that not only serve you every day, but can be passed down for years to come.

  • Are your wallets handmade?

Yes. Every wallet is handcrafted start to finish in my small workshop in Washington State. I personally hand-cut each piece of leather, shape and prepare every panel, and burnish the edges for a smooth, refined finish. This slow, intentional approach ensures each wallet receives the level of care and attention that mass-produced goods simply can’t match.

For stitching, you have two high-quality options:

Traditional hand-stitched saddle stitching, which is done entirely by hand using two needles and a single continuous thread. This method creates a stitch that is incredibly strong, long-lasting, and often considered the gold standard in leathercraft.

Precision machine stitching, done on a professional-grade industrial sewing machine, offering clean, consistent stitches at a more affordable price point.

Hand-stitching is a premium option because it is more labor-intensive and nearly impossible to replicate by machine. Machine stitching, however, is still extremely durable and reliable. No matter which option you choose, both are crafted with the same commitment to quality, longevity, and attention to detail that defines JP Leather & Stitch Co.

  • How long does it take to make and ship my order?

Each item is made to order, meaning I begin crafting your wallet only after the order is placed. This ensures every piece receives the attention, precision, and care it deserves. Standard production time is typically 3–7 business days, depending on my current workflow and seasonal demand.

Once your wallet is completed, it is carefully inspected, conditioned, and packaged for shipping. Orders within the U.S. generally arrive in 3–5 business days after dispatch. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships so you can follow its progress from my workshop to your doorstep.

If you ever need your order by a specific date, feel free to contact me—I'm happy to let you know current lead times or see if an expedited option is possible.

  • Do you offer repairs or a warranty?

Absolutely. Every JP Leather & Stitch Co. product is backed by a Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty, which covers stitching, construction, and the structural integrity of your wallet. If a stitch ever breaks, a seam loosens, or any craftsmanship-related issue arises under normal use, I will repair it free of charge—no questions asked.

My goal is to build leather goods that last for decades, not just years. This warranty reflects my confidence in the materials I use and the methods I rely on, whether your wallet is hand-stitched or machine-stitched.

Accidents happen, and leather naturally experiences wear over time. For issues outside the warranty—such as heavy scuffing, water damage, cracked leather from long-term dryness, or general aging—I offer affordable repair and restoration services. These services help extend the life of your wallet, preserve its character, and ensure it continues to serve you well for many years.

Your wallet is an investment, and I stand behind every piece I make.

  • How should I care for my leather wallet?

Full-grain leather is naturally durable and low-maintenance, but a little care will keep it looking its best for years. Because this type of leather is not coated in heavy plastics or synthetic finishes, it ages beautifully and responds well to simple, thoughtful upkeep.

    To care for your wallet:

Keep it dry: If the leather gets wet, gently pat it dry with a clean cloth and let it air-dry naturally. Avoid heat sources like hair dryers or heaters, which can cause the leather to crack.

Avoid harsh chemicals: Household cleaners, alcohol-based products, and leather “wipes” can strip away natural oils and damage the surface.

Condition occasionally: Apply a light coat of a quality leather balm every 6–12 months to replenish oils and keep the leather supple. A little goes a long way—over-conditioning can cause softening or darkening, so moderation is key.

Let it breathe: Full-grain leather needs air to maintain its strength. Avoid long-term storage in sealed plastic containers.

With regular use and proper care, your wallet will naturally soften, darken, and develop a rich, organic patina that reflects your lifestyle. This aging process is one of the most valued qualities of real full-grain leather—every mark and shade change tells part of your story.

  • What is your return or exchange policy?

If your wallet arrives damaged or defective in any way, I will always make it right. Please contact me within 7 days of delivery with photos of the issue, and I will arrange a repair or replacement as quickly as possible.

Because each wallet is individually handcrafted to order, I do not accept general returns or exchanges. Every piece is made specifically for the customer who ordered it, using traditional techniques and premium full-grain leather. This handcrafted process means returned items cannot be resold.

It’s also important to understand that full-grain leather naturally carries the markings and character of the animal’s life—small scars, subtle scratches, color variations, and unique grain patterns. These are not defects; they are signs of authenticity and part of what makes each wallet one-of-a-kind. With daily use, the leather will also develop new marks and a deepening patina, which is a normal and highly valued feature of real leather.

That said, your satisfaction genuinely matters to me. If you ever have concerns about your order or questions about the leather’s natural characteristics, I’m always here to help and ensure you feel confident about your purchase.
